Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.) - a species of plant from the mulberry family. Also known as loaves. It comes from India, is also grown in many other regions of the world with a tropical climate - mainly in India and Indonesia.
Fruits grow straight from the trunk, reach 30-90 cm in length, 20-25 cm in diameter and usually 5-10 kg in weight, exceptionally up to 35 kg. Fruit covered with numerous short and blunt spikes. One fruit contains 100-600 seeds.
Edible plant: The fruit of the loaves tree (jacquard) is usually eaten fresh, after drying or in the form of jam. Yellow or pink, sticky and sweet, but very intensely fragrant flesh, as well as large, brown seeds are suitable for consumption.
It is used as a meat substitute (eg in a dish with curry spice).
